Moshe* is a 20 year-old man who grew up in a physically abusive home; he and his siblings were severely beaten by their father countless times throughout his childhood. As the oldest, in addition to the physical pain and feelings of helplessness and despair that he experienced, Moshe felt the added guilt of not being able to protect his younger brothers and sisters. His mother was unfortunately a silent bystander without the internal resources to combat her husband’s violent behavior.
Moshe felt unloved and unwanted, so he turned to marijuana and Adderall and smoking heavily at the age of 14. His anger and pain inevitably imploded, and at 20 years old, he turned violent and physically attacked his mother. Not knowing what to do and feeling out of her league, she was finally ready to reach out for help; and she called Amudim to discuss the situation, working with a case manager to arrange treatment for her son at a residential treatment center in Arizona. Thankfully, Moshe realized that he could no longer manage the pain and shame he felt on his own, and was ready to voluntarily admit himself to the rehab facility.
The case manager has maintained continuous contact with the treatment center; and we are happy to note that Moshe completed the program successfully and is currently living in a sober living facility, continuing on his path toward recovery.
Amudim is in touch with both Moshe and his mother. While Moshe is on his way to a stronger future, there is still more work to be done within his family. We are here to help provide the assistance they need to work through the years of trauma and progress towards a place of healing.
